REDAC supported awardees with methodological consultation, project management, data analytics, statistical support, and dissemination of findings.
RETROSPECTIVE EVALUATION OF CLINICAL OUTCOMES AND MANAGEMENT OF SUBSTANCE DEPENDENCE AMONG PATIENTS WITH REPEAT CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS FOR INFECTIVE ENDOCARDITIS
Researched by Gautum Shroff, MD, Cardiology Division, Department of Medicine
Reason for Research
This is an area that is devoid of data to guide clinicians, which makes it very difficult to offer meaningful recommendations both from a clinical and ethical standpoint.
Using the RDW
We will be able to inform targeted clinical strategies aimed at reducing mortality and morbidity in this vulnerable population, including the development of specialized care pathways for substance-dependent patients. Additionally, findings could influence policy decisions related to resource allocation, such as enhancing access to mental health services and addiction treatment within hospital settings.
SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER TRENDS AND OUTCOMES AMONG SOMALI IMMIGRANTS AT A MINNEAPOLIS SAFETY-NET HOSPITAL
Researched by Hafsa Hassan, Research Coordinator, HHRI
Reason for Research
The growing opioid crisis in Minneapolis's East African community necessitates the need for quantitative data to inform targeted public health interventions at the clinical and policy levels. Currently, most research and information regarding substance use disorders in the Somali community are centered on testimony from community advocates and media reports.
Using the RDW
This will help provide data-driven insights on substance use disorder patterns that go beyond community and media narratives surrounding the issue.
SUPPORT FOR NEW ARRIVALS AT HENNEPIN HEALTHCARE
Researched by LaShawna McKinney, CHW, Healthcare Homes
Reason for Research
Like other parts of the US, Minneapolis has seen an influx of newly arriving people to the US. A Hennepin County situational overview in February 2024 estimated that 300 to 400 new people are arriving in Hennepin County each week. We have no current system to understand the size of this population, their countries of origin, nor to obtain their prior health care or vaccination records
Using the RDW
This will help improve HHS' understanding of the volume and needs of newly arriving refugees and immigrants. This data will help our system consider the health needs of this group to better care for newly arriving people.
