Key Researcher
Casey Dorr, PhD is an Investigator of Nephrology at Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI). He is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota (U of M) Department of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. Dr. Dorr is the Co-Director of the Pathways to Research Program (PReP) & Advanced Pathways to Research Program (A-PReP) at the Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute at the U of M. Dr. Dorr completed his BS in Cell Biology and Chemistry at U of M Duluth and his PhD. at the U of M Twin Cities in Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology, and Genetics. Afterward, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the U of M’s Masonic Cancer Center in Cancer Genetics and a second post-doctoral fellowship at HHRI in Nephrology and Molecular Epidemiology.
Nephrology, Transplantation, & Pharmacogenomics
Dr. Dorr’s mission is to improve health outcomes in underserved populations through biomedical research and student training. His research focuses on cell culture models, CRISPR, RNA sequencing, spatial omics, genomics, and nephrology clinical outcomes. Through this research, he seeks to better understand pharmacogenomics, or the study of how a person’s genes affect how they respond to medications. Rather than a one-size fits-all-approach to medication, this research can help to create individually tailored medication regimens.
Dr. Dorr’s cause is very personal as a descendant of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. Dr. Dorr is an active life member of both the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) and a Sequoyah Fellow of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES). Dr. Dorr is also a member of the American Society for Transplantation (AST) and the American Society of Nephrology (ASN).
