Key Researcher
Cory Schaffhausen, PhD
Dr. Schaffhausen is a health services researcher at the Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute, an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota, and a human-centered design engineer at the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR). His research applies human-centered design and stakeholder engagement to improve care delivery for patients with chronic diseases.
Chronic Disease Organ Transplantation
Dr. Schaffhausen’s research focuses on solid organ transplantation. He’s developed tools for collaborative decision-making between patients and clinicians to better understand the process of organ donor acceptance. He has completed mixed methods studies with 200+ patients and family members to educate them on new tools for researching transplant centers that meet their unique needs.
His research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and many others. Through his work with SRTR, he works alongside patients and key stakeholders to decipher and analyze SRTR statistics and resources to better support patient and clinician decisions throughout the transplant journey.
