Berman Center for Clinical Outcomes and Research
Top doctor – Dr. Anne Murray’s extraordinary journey into gerontology has led her to remarkable discoveries that may help older adults tremendously – Minnesota Good Age Magazine, February 2017.
Dr. Murray is a geriatrician, internist, and neuroepidemiologist specializing in dementia. She conducts research in the epidemiology of cognitive impairment in elderly patients with kidney disease, anemia, and diabetes, and is the PI for the NIH-funded BRain IN Kidney Disease (BRINK) Study. She is also the US Co-PI (with John McNeil, Monash University, Australia) for the NIH ASPirin in the Reduction of Events in the Elderly (ASPREE) study, which aims to determine the risks and benefits of low-dose daily aspirin in preventing dementia, disability and death. She was the previous Midwest PI for the Actions to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetics-Memory in Diabetics (ACCORD MIND) and ACCORDION-MIND follow-on study. She enjoys teaching as a Faculty member of the Geriatric Fellowship Program at HCMC, the flagship acute care and teaching hospital of the Hennepin Healthcare System, which trains future geriatricians. Dr. Murray is also the section head of Clinical Epidemiology Division at HCMC, and Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School, with an adjunct appointment in Neurology.
The Berman Center has been conducting major clinical trials on chronic disease outcomes for the past 50 years. Founded in 1966 by Dr. Reuben Berman, a pioneer in the field of cardiovascular clinical research, its primary mission is to empower the medical community to offer better patient care through research.
Since 1997, the Berman Center has been a leader in many areas of clinical research coordination and a clinical site for nearly 100 trials in heart and kidney disease, diabetes, women’s health, cancer, aging, and neurological disorders. The Berman Center is experienced in study design, implementation and analysis and has been – and is currently – an International Coordinating Center for the ASPREE study.
The Berman Center has extensive experience proposing and recruiting sites through established networks and relationships and can implement all aspects associated with starting and managing a successful study. As such, the Berman Center is ideally suited to guide new investigators in any and all aspects of clinical research or provide a research infrastructure for those investigators who may not currently have one.
The Berman Center works with federal programs, pharmaceutical companies, managed care facilities, and other research organizations to advance our understanding of chronic diseases and help lead the way to new treatments for diseases.
