The Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute / HHRI (formerly the Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation / MMRF) oversees the medical research that is conducted at HCMC, the acute care research and teaching hospital of the Hennepin Healthcare system.
HHRI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is one of the largest nonprofit medical research foundations in Minnesota.

Founded in 1952 at Minneapolis General Hospital (now HCMC), HHRI's mission is to improve patient care and the health of our community through research and education.

Throughout its history, HHRI has been closely linked with strong patient care programs and the training and continuing education of physicians and scientists.

HHRI supports the work of more than 200 investigators, including MDs, MD/PhDs, and PhDs, and administers more than $30 million in research funds annually.

HHRI consistently ranks in the top ten percent nationally of all institutions receiving research funds from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

HHRI has received full accreditation from the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP), and from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).
